Overview
Before you even start putting together a plan for migrating an environment to Azure, you’ll want to know some of the specifics of that environment, for example:
- VM compute – vCPU and RAM footprint
- Disk performance usage – Peak Read and Write IOPS (Data Churn)
You’ll also want to know things like:
- Required on-premises infrastructure footprint to facilitate replication
- How much bandwidth is required to meet your chosen RPO (Recovery Point Objective)
- VM replication eligibility – e.g. Server 2008 32 bit is not supported in Azure
- Indicative costs for replication to Azure, including scheduled DR Drills
Enter the Azure Site Recovery (ASR) Deployment Planner Tool. In this guide we’re going to go through the step-by-step process for both profiling our on-premises environment and then generating a report based on that information…so let’s get to it.
